The Eagle,
Brevard's fiercely independent weekly newspaper, is published every
Thursday by a blind, disabled veteran, who is fiercely independent
himself.
Jim
Guttenberg started The Eagle in 1998 to stay in contact with the community
and friends after losing his sight, control of his hands and ability to
walk, as a result of his military service. Any one of these factors would
have been enough to stop most people, but not Jim Guttenberg. In fact, his
wife named the newspaper after him, he is an eagle and The Eagle has
taken on his persona.
Over the
years, the, tabloid-sized newspaper has increased in both local
over-the-counter sales and in subscribers. Subscribers primarily are from
Brevard County, Florida, although there are subscribers across the country
(in Canada and Europe, as well), who want to continue their ties with
Brevard County and Florida, or who simply enjoy Guttenberg's outlook and
reading his commentary on life in Brevard and in-general. His My Weekly
Say column has been recognized for its outstanding humor by the Florida
Press Association.

CHARLOTTE GOLDIE-ROSE LOUISE GUTTENBERG
Garden Writer - Cookbook Author - Romance Writer...
Specialist in "Southern Living and Hospitality"
She is sort of a "Martha Stewart with guns," as I think of her. She has
nurtured two fine boys into career military men, all the while, spending a
life-long career in the newspaper business and publishing.
She is a fifth-generation Florida native and is steeped in Florida-lore.
She writes garden columns, loves to cook...downhome and gourmet and knows
the most interesting trivia...an eclectic and interesting modern female
personality, who defies all the feminist rules.
